Satan's Junkyard

Here is another in the Junkyard Creep series I did recently. I re- worked this one so much I almost trashed it. Some of the paing looks like crap, it's so thick it won't scan right. This is a love/ hate one, there is something redeemable about it I hope...
I kind of like the dragged out of the swamp quality on the old truck, it didn't look like that... I just painted it that way for some unknown reason. 16x20 oil on Ray mar linen.

It's perfect!! The colors you used are really different and they absolutely work for this subject, and the swamp vehicle just makes the whole thing. What's not to love?

Cool. What a dirty, musty place you created.

Have you been painting the figure lately? Haven't seen any from you in a while.

Hey, Bill, I actually think this is my favorite painting by you so far! My favorite parts are the sky and the dirt. The colors are strikingly pretty to me. However, it would be interesting to see a similar idea done with less paint, so you can get the same effect and still be happy with your own results (although I don't think "overworked" is always a bad thing, especially in this case). I for one love this painting!

P.S. Have you noticed that John K is posting about colors lately? It would be interesting to see some your thought and input in the comments. What'ya say?

Truthfully, "your" brush makes any subject "ART": much harder than it looks to pull off. You tackle tough subjects in a "matter of fact way" that leaves them alive with soul. I hope you don't think by painting his "junk yard", he will forget that thing you did; joking! Cheers

Thanks Ryan and Shawn— For you guys I did a post on color
“whys" on John's blog as per your requests. It's under the Yogi thread when John posts it... It kind of discouraging to post as John rarely replies to my posts. I know he respects my paintings, but I don’t think he understands blogger etiquette.

Hey Jon, I don't think he's pays attention to me. He too busy preaching overextending your credit seminars under that bad hair.

Hey, Bill!
The comment you posted on John's blog was very insightful to me. There is so much to learn about color theories, and I know so little of it. It would be interesting to continue reading more of your theories some day if you ever feel motivated to post more about it. Your knowledge is really inspiring.

Thanks for answering my request!

The darker parts of the clouds look a little saturated (?), but I like the oranges. I like the car in the foreground, too. It looks like it's comvered in slime or moss (that's how you know it's facing north!).

There appears to be a hole opening up in the heavens, so perhaps there's hope for Satan's Junkyard. Or is that a hole in the ozone?

Hey BG I just think I worked to long without enough focus, It happens . All my favorite painters do plenty of lesser paintings.
