Forum Alley

Forum Alley

Oil on Wood 32x24

This in and older painting of the back alley of the Forum art Gallery I painted several years ago. I was always surprised it didn't sell as it came very close so many times. I finally took it back from the gallery as MJ HIggins is closing and decided I wanted to fix part of it. Before I knew it I repainted 80 % of it. It was a little scary as I rarely change a
"pretty good" painting for fear of ruining it... As I have done. I hope not in this case.

You are a master at achieving that glow. So, what did you change?

I really like your painting. I love the bright yellows/oranges on the side of the building and the colors in the sky.

Right now I'm looking at the first version of this painting in your book. I think you made some really good decisions when you reworked this. In the first version my eye would always land on the yellow wall and barbed wire because that's where the strongest colors were. Now there is more light throughout and the alley leads me back into the rest of the painting. The first version was good but, I like this one a lot more - there's more eye candy in it now.

If you haven't ruined a piece going back into it then keep painting - it'll happen. Nice you took the risk here Will and won - this time heh heh.. An excellent painting painterly. I like the way you indicated the concertina wire - sharp!

Heh, I know we have met at some plein air event. Great work, nice and loose, good sense of light and abstract design. Silvio from silviosilvestri.com
